NATIVE COMMUNITIES USING COMMERCIALLY AND SUSTAINABLY THEIR FOREST.......Cumala logs wallowing. Nueva Union Native Community. Chambira river basin. Loreto Region.
The project aims to develop and strengthen the capacities of the indigenous people of six basin in the peruvian Amazonia, to get a sustainable management of their jungle as a base for the eradication of the causes of poverty.
Directly favoured people
Seventeen thousand and four hundred eighty eight (17 488) inhabitants in 76 native communities, which included all Matsés, Iquito and Záparo people in Perú, the 94% of the Urarina people and the 80% of the Machiguenga and Kakinte people.

Financing
The total finance of the project is two millions, seven hundred and ten thousand, seven hundred and forty four euros (€ 2 710 744) Eighty percent (80%) from the Delegation of the European Commission in Peru and the rest from organizations like Blue Moon Fund, The Garfield Foundation, Nouvelle Planète, MacArthur Foundation, and Hivos.
Global objective
Contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the Amazonian native communities, throughout their organization and participation in the conservation and sustainable management of the tropical forests.
Specific objective
Strengthen and consolidate the native communities in six basins of the Peruvian Amazonia, developing their local capacities and establishing the bases in order to autonomously lead a model of sustainable forest management.
The expected results of the project are:
Expected Outcome 1 (EO 1): Adjustment of the legal Framework for a successful forest Management (Estimated advance: 70%)
1.1. Construction of the vision for the Communal Management of the forest.
1.2. Participative analysis of the legal Framework for the Communal Management of the forest.
1.3 Formulation, presentation and monitoring of the proposal of adjustment of the legal framework.
1.4. Studies about the impact of the sector-based policies in the communal forest Management.
Expected Outcome 2 (EO 2): Native communities in commercial and sustainable use of their forest. (Estimated advance: 50%)
2.1. Communal Organization for the forest Management.
2.2. Elaboration of communal forest Management plans.
2.3. Technical-economical training for the management of the usage unit.
2.4. Implementation of the communal forest management plans.
2.5. Research and monitoring of markets for the products of their local forest.
Expected Outcome 3 (EO 3): Native communities with plantations of forest products. (Estimated advance: 60%)
3.1. Research about the use of wood as combustible in native communities.
3.2. Installation and monitoring of plantations with the aim of energy.
3.3. Installation and management of plantations with the aim of timber production.
Expected Outcome 4 (EO 4): Native communities improve their quality of life with the use of biodiversity. (Estimated advance 50%)
4.1. Promotion of Agro-forest systems
4.2. Design and implementation of management plans for wild fauna.
4.3. Design and implementation of Management plans for lakes and fish farms
Expected Outcome 5 (EO 5): Native communities participate in the Management of the Natural Protected Areas (NPAs) in the surrounding areas. (Estimated advance: 40%)
5.1. Participation of local people in the management of the Megantony National Sanctuary.
5.2. Participation of local people in the management of the Machiguenga Communal Reserve.
5.3. Participation of local people in the management of the Matses Comunal Reserve
5.4. Participation of local people in the management of Manu National Park.
Expected Outcome 6 (EO 6): Communal monitoring system implemented (Estimated Advance 30%)
6.1. Organization and training of the local coordination committees. .
6.2. Elaboration of a Baseline research.
6.3. Design and revision of the Participative Plan of Evaluation and Monitoring.
6.4. Carrying out participative monitoring and evaluation.
