Generalities

The group directly involved in the project is the native communities that live around the Machiguenga Communal Reserve. Diagram: Yanina Arana.

This Project is aimed to strengthen the capacities of the Contract Executor for the Administration of the Machiguenga Communal Reserve (CEA – MAENI) emphasizing the communication activities.

Directly favoured people

The group directly involved in the project is the Contract Executor for the Administration of the Machiguenga Communal Reserve (CEA-Maeni), that is conformed by 3 indigenous organizations, 14 natives communities (Machiguenga, Yine, Caquinte, and Ashaninka) and one peasant settlement, with a population estimated in about 2000 men, and 2000 women, 65% of whom are under the age of 20. The CEA-Maeni is the co-executor of the project.

Location

The  area of intervention  of the Project  will be the Machiguenga Communal Reserve and its Buffer Zone, in the Echarati District, La Convencion Province, Cusco Region.

Objectives

Global objective

To strengthen  the capacities of the CEA-Maeni for the execution of the Sub-program of Communication from the Machiguenga Communal Reserve Master Plan.

Specific Objectives

1.         To promote the strengthening of institutional capacities and the leadership of the CEA-Maeni, providing the irdelegates the opportunity to travel and participate in different events related to the participative management of natural protected areas. In the first semester, a national event for exchanging experiences would take place with the other CEAs of the country; by the end of the project at least 6 delegates of the CEA-Maeni would have participated in three national  and  one international events.

2.         To contribute to the conservation of the Machiguenga Communal Reserve and to improve the abilities of diffusion and communication of the CEA-Maeni, throughout the management of the Sub-program of Communication, included in the Master Plan of the Reserve Administration Contract. By the end of the project, 20 communal communication workshops would have been done; having as results the elaboration and socialization of written and audiovisual material, as well as the Machiguenga Communal Reserve Web site available on Internet.  The local population will be informed and motivated to participate in the management of the reserve.

Expected results

The expected outcomes are the specific objectives of the project. To achieve every expected outcome there are some activities that must be done.

EXPECTED OUTCOME 1 (ER1)

Promote  the strengthening of institutional capacities and the leadership of the CEA-Maeni, providing their  delegates the opportunity to travel and participate in different events related with the participative management of natural protected areas. In the first semester a national event about exchanging experiences would take place with the other CEAs of the country; by the end of the project at least six delegates  of the CEA-Maeni would have participated en three national  and  one international events.

Activities to performin order to achieve ER 1:

1.1. Realization of events in order to share experiences with other CEAs.

1.2. Participation of the CEA—Maeni in different events related to the management of the Machiguenga Communal Reserve.

EXPECTED OUTCOME 2 (ER 2)

Contribute to the conservation of the Machiguenga Communal Reserve and to improve the abilities of diffusion and communication of the CEA-Maeni, throughout the management of the Sub-program of Communication included in the Master Plan of the Reserve Administration Contract.
